As a global leader in the production of high-end freediving gear, we have long demonstrated a commitment to environmental sustainability. From planting trees in Madagascar for every product sold to using reused plastic in packaging and exploring green energy options, we have consistently shown our dedication to preserving our planet. Recently, we have taken another significant step in our environmental mission by partnering with Maomana, a foundation dedicated to shark research, sustainable wildlife ecotourism training, community education, and shark protection in French Polynesia. This partnership underscores our commitment to ocean conservation and highlights the vital work Maomana is doing to ensure a healthy marine ecosystem.

Maomana's Mission and Story

Founded in February 2019, Maomana was born from the shared passion of Pierrick Seybald and Kori Burkhardt, who met in 2016. Pierrick, a local waterman of French Polynesia, has spent his life in the waters of the islands he calls home. With extensive experience as a freediver, spearfisherman, surfer, and ecotourism guide, Pierrick's love for the ocean led him to create Moorea Moana Tours to share his passion with others.

Kori, an ecologist from Missouri, with a BSc in Marine Sciences and a Masters in Fisheries & Aquatic Sciences, joined Pierrick in 2016 and introduced him to the world of sharks. Initially indifferent towards sharks, Pierrick's perspective shifted as he learned about their behavior, biology, and the importance of their role in the marine ecosystem. Together, they focused on studying and protecting sharks in French Polynesia, leading to the creation of Maomana.

Taurama Sun, a fisherman with deep knowledge of fish behavior and the environment, joined them to complete the foundation.

Maomana's Projects and Achievements

Maomana's projects and achievements reflect their deep commitment to marine conservation and highlight their vital work in protecting ocean life. Their efforts encompass a wide range of activities, including addressing the challenges faced by stranded marine animals, tagging and monitoring various shark species to understand their movement and behavior, and collaborating with other research institutions for genetic and ecological studies. Maomana also works on rehabilitating and releasing sea turtles, analyzing predatory events, and creating databases for population estimates and residency rates of marine species. Their dedication extends to educating communities and promoting sustainable practices, ensuring a positive relationship between conservationists and local fishermen. Through these comprehensive and impactful initiatives, Maomana plays a crucial role in safeguarding marine ecosystems and fostering a sustainable future for the ocean's inhabitants.
