Narcosis is a result of nitrogen build up in our bodies. Nitrogen, can have an anesthetic impact on the diver, which in turn affects one's consciousness. Nitrogen narcosis happens to both freedivers and scuba divers. It is more common for the latter, as they spend more time at depth. However, it is a concern for freedivers too, especially for deeper ones.
