Diana García Benito is an Oceanographer, Submarine Pilot, Master Freediving Instructor, Yoga teacher, Marine Conservationist and Activist. She believes that by sharing knowledge and information, she can get people to understand the importance of caring and protecting the ocean.
One of the methods to raise awareness and showing the reality is through pictures. In collaboration with her partner Livio Fakeye, they create images that reflect the beauty and the problems concerning the ocean all around the world. Through the images, they not only create art but also presenting tools for people to be part of the solution and to be more conscious about the consequences of our actions in our daily life. By exposing beauty, nature and problems in an artistic way, people are more attracted and open to help.
The reason the ocean is constantly being polluted and its health destroyed is mainly due to lack of education and awareness. It is Diana's main objective to help educate and raise awareness of the fundamental role of the ocean. Through teaching people and children to have an intimate relationship with the marine world, she aims to give a conscience of safeguarding and protecting such an important part of earth’s life. Via freediving the connection between the underwater world and one's self generates a strong bond with the ocean that makes it impossible not to care about it and therefore to give all the strength and energy to protect it.
