Sometime around 180 BC, a Greek author named Oppian of Corycus wrote Halieutika, a book which dealt with sea fishing. In the book Oppian describes various methods of fishing, including ones with tridents and harpoons. Halieutika is the earliest of such work where spearfishing is mentioned.

Fast forward a few hundred years later, carbon fins and super sized teak guns are the modern way of catching your desired prey. Even though the spirit remains the same - we hunt for food and excitement - the means have drastically changed.
