Built from the ground up as a complete system, ICON brings together Alchemy’s competition-grade carbon technology with an entirely new foot pocket, modular performance architecture and a series of technologies engineered to maximize power transfer, control, and efficiency.

From PowerLock and ZeroLoss to Adaptive Fit and HydroCore, every element has been designed to work together, allowing the diver to adapt ICON to different diving styles, training demands, and performance goals.

BLADES

The ICON blades represent the latest evolution of Alchemy's carbon fin technology. Their refined geometry tapers toward the tip, sculpted to guide water with absolute precision. This narrowing profile reduces turbulence and drag while increasing the speed of the water leaving the blades, channeling every kick into clean, effortless thrust. The result is a blade that feels faster, sharper, and more responsive in every phase of motion.

Each blade is set at a 30-degree angle, perfectly calibrated for efficient leg extension and reduced effort during deep dives. This angle works in complete harmony with the ICON foot pockets, creating a unified system that transfers power instantly and eliminates energy loss.

Combined with Alchemy’s signature Hardtip technology, which reinforces the blade’s tip for optimal bending response, the ICON blades form a propulsion system engineered for precision, endurance, and control at depth.

Recognizing that no two freedivers are the same, ICON is available in five stiffness options: Soft, Medium-Soft, Medium, Medium-Hard, and Hard. Rather than forcing athletes into a limited range of choices, this allows every diver to select the exact combination of flexibility, feedback, and power that matches their physique, technique, and diving objectives.

Every pair can be further personalized through a wide range of color combinations, rail configurations, and the optional Aurora coating. Developed in collaboration with Yamamoto™, Aurora transforms the appearance of the carbon through a unique color-shifting technology that reacts to light and viewing angle. The result is a finish that constantly changes character, revealing different tones and reflections above and below the water. Available in multiple colorways, Aurora allows divers to combine world-class performance with a truly distinctive visual identity.

ICON FOOT POCKETS

For years, freedivers faced a trade-off: competition-grade foot pockets that delivered exceptional power transfer but left feet in pain after minutes of use, or comfortable foot pockets that simply could not perform at the highest level. Training and competition required different tools, and the needs of the modern freediver were left unanswered.

With ICON, we set out to change that. After four years of research, development, and testing, we designed the first adaptive foot pocket built for both worlds: uncompromising in performance, yet engineered for comfort across long hours of training.

At the heart of the system lies ZeroLoss technology, ensuring every kick transfers maximum energy directly to the blade. A unique combination of interchangeable performance components allows divers to fine-tune fit, responsiveness, and power transfer according to their specific needs.

The PowerLock ring allows divers to adjust pressure across the bridge of the foot, creating a more secure connection between foot and fin. Available in two stiffness levels, a flexible black version for everyday training and an extra-stiff white version for maximum responsiveness, the system enables divers to adapt the foot pocket to different situations. Whether prioritizing comfort during extended sessions or seeking absolute power transfer for competition, PowerLock delivers a level of customization never before available in a freediving foot pocket.

Complementing this system are the AdaptiveFit silicone cushions, which can be inserted through the rear access slot to adjust heel retention and internal volume. Beyond improving comfort, the cushions create a tighter connection between foot and foot pocket, minimizing unwanted movement and reducing energy loss throughout the kick cycle. They also provide a practical solution for divers who fall between sizes, allowing for a more precise fit without compromising performance. Together, the PowerLock rings and AdaptiveFit cushions transform ICON from a fixed product into an adaptable system capable of meeting the demands of training, competition, and everything in between.

The blade inserts deep into the ICON foot pocket, extending all the way to the beginning of the open heel. This extended interface eliminates weak points between foot and blade, creating a unified structure where every movement is translated directly into propulsion. The result is exceptional responsiveness, immediate feedback, and maximum efficiency throughout the dive.

Running through the center of the foot pocket, the HydroCore channel is far more than a visual design element. Its textured surface guides water rapidly along the pocket, reducing turbulence and stabilizing each kick. By managing water flow with precision, HydroCore enhances both propulsion and control, allowing divers to fully command the direction and management of their kicks.

The distinctive side flaps were developed with a fundamentally different philosophy from traditional foot pocket designs. Rather than relying on large, rigid structures that add weight and interfere with the blade's natural flex pattern, the ICON flaps are compact, precisely shaped, and strategically positioned. Their purpose is not to restrict movement, but to manage water flow at the critical transition point between foot pocket and blade. The result is improved stability, cleaner water release, and a more natural transfer of energy throughout the kick cycle.

Material selection played an equally important role in the development process. Every compound was evaluated not only for performance, but also for durability, comfort, memory retention, and long-term consistency. The final formulation combines exceptional structural rigidity where power transfer is required with carefully controlled flexibility in areas that interact directly with the foot. This balance allows ICON to achieve levels of responsiveness traditionally associated with competition-only equipment while maintaining the comfort required for extended training sessions.

The result is more than a foot pocket. It is an adaptive performance system. Capable of delivering explosive power when every meter matters and exceptional comfort when hours of training lie ahead, ICON adapts to the needs of the diver rather than forcing the diver to adapt to the equipment. Built without compromise and refined through years of development, it establishes a new benchmark for what a freediving foot pocket can be.

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

They ICON fins were not born overnight. They were the result of relentless research, design, prototyping, and testing. The goal was clear: to create the first carbon fins that deliver uncompromising performance while remaining comfortable to wear.

The development of the ICON foot pockets became a project of its own. We began with deep research into materials, experimenting with elastomers, composites, and structural reinforcements until we found the perfect balance. Every element, from the instep ring to the silicone cushions, was rethought from the ground up. These components had to perform at full capacity while staying comfortable enough for hours of training, a challenge that required countless iterations.

The blade itself became a laboratory of innovation. Its tapering geometry was paired with unique flaps, a one-of-a-kind design that fine-tunes water flow and efficiency at depth. Prototype after prototype was tested, evaluated, and refined by athletes until every detail reached its highest potential.

What began as a question, can we design a fin that is both competition-ready and truly wearable, became ICON. A project that merged advanced materials research with bold design thinking, resulting in a flagship fin that changes what freedivers can expect from their gear.

CARBON LAYERS

Each ICON blade is built with an advanced carbon configuration, composed of fifteen layers of premium, EU-made, 100% carbon fiber engineered for deep-sea performance. Every layer is strategically positioned to achieve an optimal bending profile, delivering exceptional feedback, precision, and speed. A new V-shaped reinforcement extends beyond the blade angle, channeling power from the very first kick and ensuring maximum efficiency and responsiveness at depth.

HARD-TIP

ICON fins incorporate Alchemy’s patent-pending Hardtip design, an innovation that optimizes the blade’s bending behavior by reversing the construction order at the tip. This configuration increases tip hardness, eliminating dead zones during immersion and maintaining a consistent energy flow throughout the kick cycle. Hardtip engages dynamically during vertical movement, ensuring uninterrupted power transfer without energy loss. While it does not alter the blade’s overall stiffness, it enhances efficiency and delivers a smooth, continuous transition of power with every kick.

CONSTRUCTION

Each ICON fin is engineered to the highest standards and produced under strictly controlled environmental conditions, maintaining consistent temperature and humidity throughout manufacturing. Utilizing 45 tons of pressure and vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding (VRTM), every pair undergoes a 12-hour post-curing cycle with temperature regulation controlled by a PLC system with a deviation of less than ±0.1°C. The entire production process is powered by renewable energy, ensuring exceptional performance alongside a responsible approach to sustainability.

BLADE ENDING SHAPE

The blades feature a dolphin tail-shaped (D.Tail) tip, engineered to maximize thrust while minimizing energy expenditure. Informed by hydrodynamic studies conducted at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (T. Wei) and validated through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis, this design replicates the natural efficiency of a dolphin’s movement. The D.Tail geometry channels water flow to increase propulsion and reduce drag, resulting in faster, more efficient kicks with less effort.

SILICONE WATER-RAILS

The hydrodynamic water rails are constructed from 100% high-performance silicone, precision-engineered through 3D CAD design and produced in the UK. Extensive CFD testing confirms their ability to channel water efficiently along the blade while maintaining structural integrity under extreme bending conditions. Unlike rubber, silicone retains its shape and strength over time, ensuring consistent water flow from the start of each stroke and an immediate, responsive connection to the diver’s movements.

Selecting the right blade stiffness is one of the most important factors in maximizing fin performance. Every freediver has a unique combination of body weight, leg strength, kicking technique, and diving objectives, making a one-size-fits-all approach ineffective. That is why ICON is available in five distinct stiffness options, allowing divers to choose the configuration that best matches their individual needs.

LEAD TIME

Alchemy fins are custom-made to order and not kept in stock. The standard lead time is approximately 2 weeks, though it may vary depending on the workload. To ensure timely delivery, we recommend reaching out to confirm the current lead time before placing your order.

ASSEMBLY

ICON blades are designed exclusively for use with ICON foot pockets and are not available separately. Every pair of ICON fins is assembled by the Alchemy team using a specialized bonding process developed to maximize structural integrity, responsiveness, and long-term durability.

Unlike traditional assembly methods, ICON fins are attached using adhesive bonding only and are never drilled. This preserves the integrity of the carbon structure, eliminates stress concentration points, and ensures optimal power transfer between blade and foot pocket.

The deep blade insertion and ZeroLoss architecture are fundamental elements of the ICON design philosophy, creating a unified system where blade and foot pocket function as a single structure. For this reason, ICON blades are not compatible with third-party foot pockets.
