Sayuri Kinoshita (1988 - 2019) was the first Japanese freediver to set a freediving world record. She swam to 72 meters deep and back, without fins, in 2016. She also set the world record Free Immersion at 97 meters in 2018. Hanako Hirose set a world record in constant weight with her monofin to a depth of 106 meters in 2018.
