As it happens with most things in life, there are things you wish you knew at the start of a journey, any journey, be it a professional or a personal one. That's where education comes into place, and that's why here at Alchemy we always stress the importance of never stopping to learn.

When people get into spearfishing, they seem to always get hooked on exploring stuff about their equipment, and especially their guns. In our opinion at least, they waste a massive amount of time finding out extremely detailed data about types of wood, carbon layers,  rubber lengths, and whatnot, when they actually should focus on how to get the fish while being safe.

Here are two things the guys from Adreno Spearfishing wish they knew when starting out hunting fish and we couldn't agree more.

Take A Freediving Course

“One example of me making mistakes is, when I started out, it was hard getting advice, as the internet wasn't as prolific and there wasn't as much information on the Internet as there is these days. So I ended up bursting my eardrum because I didn't really know how to equalize gently. I was doing it forcefully and not often enough and burst my eardrum. I lost about 15% of my hearing and if I had done a freediving course it probably would have saved my ear from ringing and been a lot better for me to actually progress a lot quicker”.

Join A Local Spearfishing Club

“I also wish I have gotten involved in joining a club, that meets once a month or once every second month. That’s a place where you join a bunch of guys and actually just chat about whether it's problems that you're having or something that you're trying to overcome, a hunting technique, an equalization problem… All of a sudden, you don't have one person that you're asking, you've got 10, 20, 30 people that can actually comment and help you progress. It's a good environment for you to really progress with your spearfishing and to overcome obstacles that you might have. That can really make a difference”.
