Freediver and creator Geoff Coombs just released a new UW film freediving the Muskoka Lakes and it is a true masterpiece!
"The Muskoka Lakes feel like home to me. The trees, the water, the wild, it awakens memories from my childhood growing up here. Coming here in the winter and seeing a familiar place in a new way is gratifying. Our modern lives are often so busy, distractions and conflict surround us. We are often overwhelmed with information but i find silence and comfort by exploring the cold, often overlooked places. That is where i love to be. Freediving under ice is a challenge that many would say is foolish. Why do you do it? Isn't that risky? I agree it is a unique pursuit and one that carries risks, but to us it is an experience that challenges our mind and body, and affords one an opportunity for a brief moment under the surface, where all is quiet, effortless and there we find peace. Freediving under ice in the Muskoka lakes was a first for me. I doubt anyone has done it before, so that added to the allure. While the underwater visibility is nowhere near the same as Tobermory, it felt oddly peaceful exploring the murky depths and seeing the beautiful winter views topside. Special thanks to Andrew of Ontario Freedivers for being the best ice diver around and enduring the cold in his 5mm wetsuit. Looking forward to exploring more unusual underwater places soon".
