John Prins
John Prins is a freediving instructor and founder of the Fins and Foam Freediving school in California. Born in Australia, he grew up next to the beach, swimming with sharks, dodging blue bottle stings, and sticking his finger into anemones from a very young age. On a break between jobs in finance, John traveled to South East Asia where he discovered deep freediving’s ability to compress an hour of meditation into a single minute underwater. Returning to his home in northern California, he realized that the cold, rough waters of the Pacific Ocean hide magical conditions for freediving. Sunlight filtering down through kelp forests hundreds of feet deep; a coast hugged by seals, dolphins, and grey whales; and coastal towns full of ocean lovers, already surfing, sailing, and kiteboarding. He made it his mission to bring freediving to California and founded the first school dedicated to freediving in the San Francisco Bay Area, Fins and Foam freediving, which has successfully introduced hundreds of students to freediving and built a thriving community of freedivers that continues to grow each year.
