Javier Gil Humphrey
Javier Gil Humphrey was born in Tampico, Tamaulipas, which is located in the north east of Mexico. It all started when he was 8 years old in a place called Isla de Lobos, not so far from Tampico. As he watched his dad dive and spearfish every weekend, after 2 years his dad taught him to dive and absolutely loved it.
Over the years he gradually learned to dive deeper. The more he got into it, the more he discovered new things. He remembers that one day, his dad showed him a video about apnea and it instantly caught his attention. He learned more about it and decided to take a course in a cenote in Playa del Carmen. The course was very helpful, so naturally he went from diving 10m up to 20m. At the time, he was living in Texas, so he could only go spearfishing over the summer and holidays when he visited his family in Cancun. It was actually when he moved back to Tampico when he started to dedicate more time to this sport and started to make true progress.
He is currently considered to be one of the best spearos around the Gulf of Mexico.
