Javier Gil Humphrey

Spearo

Javier Gil Humphrey was born in Tampico, Tamaulipas, in northeastern Mexico. His journey began at age eight on Isla de Lobos, not far from his hometown, where he watched his father dive and spearfish every weekend. Two years later, his father taught him to dive, and he was instantly hooked.

As the years passed, Javier gradually pushed his limits and explored greater depths. A turning point came when his father introduced him to a video on apnea, sparking his curiosity. He later took his first freediving course in a cenote in Playa del Carmen, which helped him improve from 10 to 20 meters.

While living in Texas, he could only dive during summers and holidays in Cancun. But after moving back to Tampico, he dedicated himself fully to the sport.
