Ariel Quintana
Spearo
Ariel Quintana was born in the Canary Islands, Spain. His connection to the ocean began early, spending summers at his family’s beach house in Salinetas. By the age of five, he was already snorkeling and catching octopus and small fish. He was fascinated by seasoned spearos who landed large catches, and their skill inspired him to grow in the sport.
At twelve, he bought his first speargun and began hunting groupers. From that moment, he was hooked. Largely self-taught, Ariel spent countless hours in the water and pored over spearfishing magazines, learning from icons of the sport.
At 19, he moved to Madrid to study medicine, putting his spearfishing on hold due to the lack of ocean access. Seven years later, he returned home and resumed the sport with renewed focus. A pivotal moment came when he befriended Rayco Garcia Habas, one of Spain’s top spearos. Their friendship and frequent dives together have played a key role in Ariel’s continued growth and success.
Today, Ariel is in the water three to four times a week. His passion, discipline, and skill are clearly reflected in his impressive catches and growing presence within the spearfishing community.
